IdeaLab The Biopolitical Condition

An IdeaLab is an interdisciplinary group of researchers who are given funding by the Academische Stichting Leuven to develop research activities around a cutting-edge topic. “The Biopolitical Condition” brings together researchers from Cultural Studies, Philosophy, Literary Studies, Art History and Sociology to study the impact of theories about biopolitics on their respective fields. This IdeaLab was proposed by Stijn De Cauwer in 2014 and approved for a period of 2 years. In 2017, it was extended with another year.

Besides setting up a reading group, the researchers involved in this IdeaLab have organized events, such as the international conference on “Immunity and Modernity: Picturing Threat and Production” in 2015, and they have published their research in scholarly publications, such as the forthcoming book Critical Theory at a Crossroads: Conversations on Resistance in Times of Crisis (Columbia University Press, 2018), edited by Stijn De Cauwer, and special issues of Configurations (2017) and De Uil Van Minerva (2017).

This IdeaLab is part of Workiteph – Network on Italian Thought and European Philosophies.
